Minutes Friends of Ferris

Barb welcomed everyone to the meeting

Guest Speaker
- Barb introduced Michael Oatway, teacher of physical education and geography. She is interested in bringing the Outdoor Adventure Club/Double period class into Ferris Park to study nature. She advised there is an Earth Day Grant possibly available to apply for. Tom thought it was a great idea to have the students in the park. A meeting is to be set up with Michael and Tom Mates and Barb to discuss their involvement further.

Review of Agenda - motion to accept by Fred, 2nded be Rose.

Approval of minutes of last Meeting - Nov. 18 AGM and Sept. 8, 2009 - motion by Rose, Seconded by Carol Robertson

Election of Board of Executive
- current members to stay in their positions
President - Barb Hogan, Vice President - Fred Ellis, Secretary, Carole Ellis, Treasurer - John Knox

Financial Update
- John reviewed the proposed figures for the 2010 budget with us. The revised budget will be presented at the next meeting. Bank balance $9,266.52.
Friends asked to pay $120. for P.O. box - to check re charitable status

Constitution and Bylaws
- have been amended and are posted on website

Promotions
- Ontario Parks merchandise - we keep 80% profit, payment to be made after sale of items, monthly reporting to Ontario Parks would need to be done. Tom does not have current catalogue yet. The Friends golf shirts to be sold at park office

Chimney Swift Tower/Tree
- Tree was installed at picnic shelter area Nov. 20
Plaque to be designed with Ontario Parks and Friends of Ferris logo
Carol R. working with Tom Claude from Campbellford
Woodworking Club states they are still going ahead to build a Chimney Swift Tower (to add insulation to original plans). We have only to pay for cement and help do the installation.
Location to be decided.
Joe of Trent University to observe both in the park and also the one at Ontario Hydro.

Benches
- Three more benches to be installed, Ontario Parks to pay for cement and lumber

Boardwalks
- Mathew Cousins to help with construction on white trail near pond. Home 653-4536 Cell 705-559-xxxx, email Mathew cousins@hotmail.com. Barb to call Mathew.

Lawnmower
- has been purchased and works well.

Trail Signage
- Al is working with Tom & David Brae on photos and wording

Banners
- Carole to approach Town re banners for bridge re: Trillium Walk and Kite Day

Children's Programs
- Barb emailed Lisa Kelly who had shown interest in taking the 3 day course No response back from her as yet.

Winter Projects
- Trail markers are in place for both ski and snowshoe trails
Signs have been posted for ski trail
New signs were posted after people walked on ski tracks
Winter trail map is excellent, well done Al and Lisa Winegarden (Perfect Print)
Snow fence on road leading to day use has been driven over, ATV's & snowmobiles driving into bedrock and valley view Snowplough operator doing a great job.
Any damage to park should be reported to Barb, to pass on to Tom

New Business
Volunteer Hours
- to write hours on individual sheets provided - to be turned in at end of season

Membership Brochures
- Updated brochure to include 2010 events, Postal Code (Prov. taken out), Post Office Box (changed from address), Stone Wall Restoration (Astronomy Night taken out) Tom offered to have these printed

2010 Events
March Membership Drive - Terry Sprague to speak at the Aron Theatre Wednesday March 24. Topic - Our natural Heritage - Prince Edward County Natural Gems - 45 min. and natural heritage of our area - 30 min. Talk by Terry No Charge, Barb to give him $50.00 cheque to cover mileage etc. Aron Theatre - cost of rental $100.00

Trillium Walk May 2 at 1 P.M. Doreen Sharpe or Rose Odell to convene
Bennett's have offered their window for artwork

Kite Day-Sunday May 30, 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. Fred and Carole Ellis to convene

Music Fest - Need chairperson, Tom Reyner to arrange music

Stone Wall Restoration - date to be announced
Carol Robertson to convene, to contract John Shaw Rimmington re date
Gerhart to supply extra stone if needed.

Info cards to be made up with colour photos on front , and black and white info (events and dates) on back Rose Odell made motion to order 1000 at a cost of $250.00, seconded by Fred, Passed

Newspaper articles - New contact Sue Dickens for Community Press wrote 2 articles AGM -" Another Successful Year for Friends of Ferris" and "Friends of Ferris all set for enjoying winder at the park"

Trent Hills Visitor Guide - All events submitted that Barb had dates for -agreed to $55.00 three line advertisement in business listing

Newsletter To be reviewed ASAP
Company that prints the Tabloid to print the newsletter next year N/C through Tom Mates

Tom Mates - Ontario Parks
Tom to have chipper sent to Ferris Park in June
New Agreement with Ontario Parks and the Friends of Ferris Voted on and unanimously passed. Barb & Fred to sign
John to add Ontario Parks to insurance
Directors not covered in insurance policy at this point. John indicated high cost: Tom to check if necessary.
Tom to supply letter to sign over benches to Ontario Parks
New truck and gater for Park this year
Ontario Parks to supply directors with annual park passes for 2010
New gate to be installed on day use road
All directors to take ˝ day training course with MNR
Tom reports in 2009 Ontario Parks received $0.86 revenue for every $1.00 of expense. at Ferris Park. Tom was satisfied with these figures for the takeover period.
Tom is proposing 20 new electrical sites and shower building to be put in budget for 2011-12
