Friends of Ferris
April 14 2010 @ 1800 hr Grind House Café - Campbellford

Barb
welcomed everyone to the meeting.
Review of Agenda
- Graffiti in Park
- Nick reported it happened Tues. am April 0000, in day use area. , 47 pictures
were taken, re: signs, picnic tables, picnic shelter, kiosk, chimney swift tower
etc. O.P.P. were called, 2 people have been arrested. Repairs can now be arranged.
Keep track of costs and hours.
Approval of minutes from last meeting Feb. 10, 2010
Michael Oatway (teacher at CDHS) Barb has sent her an email re the coming events
along with Tom Mates' email address. No meeting has been set up yet.
Promotion
New order of O.P. merchandise going in May.
To be sold at Gate House. We receive 80% of profit. Barb to meet with Marlaine
Bennett, Carol Robertson and Mike Anderson re order.
Chimney Swift Tower/Tree
9 people
from the Campbellford Woodworking Club met April 13 to build a chimney swift
tower/tree. It has 2 layers of plywood, insulation and vinyl siding, and is
almost ready to go. To co-ordinate with Nick re installation area and date.
Several sites were suggested, Ranney Falls open area, Suspension Bridge clearing,
Sheep wash area. Woodworking Club to be involved in installation.. Jean Kelly
of Watershed Magazine would like to be there to take pictures , along with Ray
Yurowski of EMC. Tom has 2 bags of cement to donate.
Benches
A letter has been given to O.P. handing over the park benches.
Boardwalks
Suggested work to be done in the fall. Barb left message with Mathew Cousins.
Trail signage
Showing individual trail maps with possible whole map in corner and appropriate
pictures is being worked on by Al, Tom & David Bree Pictures needed of trails.
Banners
Carole reported the Town would not put up individual banners on the bridge.
The B.I.A. has applied for funding to install banners on bridge. These banners
would have an area on the bottom to velco event signs in Town. These will not
be ready to go for Trillium Walk or Kite Day. Doreen to apply for grant from
the Community Foundation to cover event signs.
Winter Projects
Al to confirm new ski trail.
David Bree to walk trail to check any environmental issues.
Membership Brochures/Newsletter
These have been printed, along with the newsletter. Thanks to Tom for printing
them in colour Barb mailed out over 80.
Rack Cards
This is a duplication of information, and was cancelled.
Trent Hills Visitor Guide
Did not get in paid three line ad ($50.00) but great advertising non the less
Events
March 24 - Membership Drive with Terry Sprague. An estimated 40 people turned
out Raised $250.00 through memberships and boardwalk donations. $50.00 given
to Terry Sprague and $100.00 to Paul Imperial for the Aron Theatre Thanks to
John Knox, Rose Odell, Linda Stydom, Doreen Sharpe and Gerhard Marzinski for
coming out. An email of thanks was received from Terry. An article was written
in EMC by Ray Yurowski - "Friends of Ferris looking for new Friends May 2 -
Trillium Walk
Rose reported the poster are up. Art work from schools to be collected and displayed
at Bennett's Furniture Store so the public can vote. Rose is to purchase prizes
(books) totalling $50.00 or less. Thanks to Donna Wilson and Marlaine. Rose
to arrange for Trillium pins. Barb to have bottled water at event.
May 30 - Kite Day
Local Tai Chi group have offered to help - to meet at Fred & Carole's to cut
kites Northumberland Kids have 2 page article on kite making and promoted Ferris
Park Kite Day. Set up time 7:30 am
August 21 - Music Fest
Event needs a co-ordinator. Kids area, food, vendors, tables, garbage, advertising,
and parking all to be co-ordinated with music. Could cancel some of these. After
much discussion, Gerhard will speak to Ken Tissard. Tom set to go with music,
local musicians donating their performances
August 28th & 29th
Dry Stone Wall Restoration -Carol Robertson to co-ordinate. Carol is promoting
event among landscapers, and gardeners, Marlaine Bennett to help. Advertising-
Perfect print to charge $.11 per sheet for black & white both sides and $.60
for colour on 80 lb. gloss paper. To order 100 to start. Gerhard has rocks to
be used for wall. Volunteers with trucks will be needed to transport to the
park. Pictures to be taken of rock and set to John Rimmington Shaw to See if
they are suitable. Road signs to be ordered as this will be a yearly event.

September 13th
Walk with Terry Sprague To host BBQ after walk Terry would like to start the
walk (3 pm)and then have someone from the Friends take over the tour with a
guided history.
October 3rd
Trail Fest Barb has spoken with Graham Wilson and he should be available New
Business Membership Cards John Knox got some membership cards printed for the
membership drive. To look at how a membership can be a benefit I.e. free BBQ
and fee for non-members? Ontario Parks Logo requirements Tom advises the tabloid,
signs in the park, publications should all have "FERRIS PARK" and Ontario Parks
at top and the Friends logo at bottom. Anything else should be passed through
Tom
Flower Brochures
A revised Spring flower brochure is done and 250 were printed for $150.00 Summer/Fall
brochure in the works. Mike made motion and Gerhard seconded, 250 to be printed
for $150.00. Many thanks to Rose and David Bree for hours of work.
Ontario Parks donation of prizes

power pad mosquito lantern One Coleman Wide beam 2D flashlight One Mountain
Equipment "Pika Plus Daypack" One Eureka "Repet" large knapsack These to be
given as prizes at our events Thanks to Tom Mates and Ontario Parks
Road Signs
Barb had number signs made to update the Trillium Walk signs. These are to be
held on with white masking tape. Stone Wall signs to be made up.
Anniversary June 24
Nothing is to be done to recognize the opening of the park June 24, 1975 (35
years)
Plastic bag holder for kiosks
Tom to provide poop and scoop bags.
Year long photo contest
Someone is needed to co-ordinate. To do this next year. Tom can put in O.P.
brochure 2011 if organized
Trail Updates/Beavers
3 trees are down and more being chewed at the sheep wash again. Tom recommends
putting chicken wire around trunks. Friends to look at 4' high around trees.
Website
Kathy is doing a great job on the web site - there have been lots of people
looking at site Because of the website -600 Scouts, a Vancouver family reunion,
a youth pastor from Cobourg are all coming into the park - Areas needing updated
pictures include the playground, picnic shelter, and campsites.
Financials
The Post Office Box has been renewed for 2010 Signing authorities at the T.D.
bank to be changed to President, Vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Motion
made by Rose, seconded by Gerhart. Carried. Revised budget attached to minutes
Ontario Parks
Tom Mates - Tom thanked the Friends for all their help Scouts to lease the Park
for 1 weekend. Brochure could go to Country Home Show
